First International Conference

The Institute aims to integrate existential-humanistic psychology with different national and regional cultures, and with clinical practice to help healer and benefit more people.

Since 2006, out of their common love for existential-humanistic psychology, Drs. Mark Yang and Louis Hoffman, joined forces with the goal of promoting existential-humanistic psychology and to facilitate dialogue and exchange between East and West. Together with colleagues and friends, they have co-authored, Volumes I and II of Existential Psychology – East and West, the first of which has been reprinted.

In 2010, the first Existential-Humanistic Psychology Conference was held at Nanjing Xiaozhuang College, facilitated by Drs. Yang and Hoffman and other existential psychologists. The conference was organized by Nanjing Xiaozhuang College, University of the Rockies, Existential Humanistic Institute, Depth Psychotherapy Institute The conference is co-sponsored by the U.S.-China International Psychological Institute, the Nanjing Psychological Society, and the Nanjing Institute of Direct Facing Counseling.

Nearly 40 foreign experts and scholars attended and participate in the conference, including Kirk Schneider, Erik Craig, Ilene Serlin, Ed Mendelowitz, Louis Hoffman, Ilene Serlin, and Erik Craig, who are leading figures in contemporary American existential-humanistic psychology. Nearly 300 experts, scholars, and students of humanistic-existential psychology from China attended the conference. The success of this conference formally introduced Existential-Humanistic Psychology to China, allowing domestic experts, scholars, and people working and serving in various fields from all walks of life to fully understand and experience the beauty of Existential-Humanism up close.

Given the success of the first International Existential-Humanistic Conference, Dr. Mark Yang, one of the founders of IIEHP, has organized and chaired three additional conferences on existential psychology. Each conference invited experts, scholars, professors and practitioners from all over the world who have made their mark in the field of existential-humanism. Each congress was a feast of existential-humanistic ideas, where people share their research and practice, discuss their questions and doubts, and look forward to the future development of existential-humanism.

Second International Conference on Existential Psychology - Fudan University, Shanghai, China, May 24-27, 2012

Second International Conference

The Second International Conference on Humanistic Existential Psychology was held at Fudan University in Shanghai from May 25-27, 2012. The conference was organized by the Center for Psychological Research at Fudan University, American Psychological Association’s, the Shanghai Yangpu District Office of Spiritual Civilization, and the Department of Psychology, School of Social Development and Public Policy, Fudan University, and co-sponsored by the Shanghai Association of College Counseling, the Professional Committee of Psychological Counseling and Psychotherapy of the Shanghai Psychological Association, and Shanghai Oceanian Corporate Management Consulting Co. More than 50 foreign experts attended, including Kirk Schneider, Louis Hoffman, president of the Humanistic Psychology Section of the American Psychological Association, Erik Craig, who has 40 years of clinical experience in existential-humanistic psychotherapy, Ilene Serlin, a renowned American clinical psychologist and registered dance therapist, and Neal King. Meanwhile, many experts and scholars from mainland China were also invited to attend the conference, including Yang Guangxue, Zhang Haiyin, Sun Shijin, He Lingfeng, Qin Wei, Wang Xuefu and others. The conference was attended by more than 400 people from the domestic industry. The theme of the conference was “ZhiMian (Facing Directly) – Inclusion – Harmony – Civilization”, emphasizing that the pursuit of the meaning of individual existence is inseparable from the civilizational progress of society. Experts and scholars from home and abroad shared and exchanged ideas around the theme of the conference, taking into account the current economic, social and cultural development issues in the world.

Third International Conference on Existential Psychology - Guangzhou, China, June 12-14, 2014

Third International Conference

The Third International Conference on Humanistic-Existential Psychology was held on June 13-15, 2014 in Guangzhou, China. The conference was organized by the Expert Steering Committee of Mental Health Education for Students in Guangdong Universities and the Professional Committee of Mental Health Education and Counseling in Guangdong Universities, and co-sponsored by the International Institute of Existential-Humanistic Psychology and the Collaboration of International Forum on College Student Psychological Education and Counseling. Professor Louis Hoffman, the former president of the Humanistic Psychology Section of the American Psychological Association, Philippe Colin-madan, the president of the French Student Health Foundation, and more than thirty experts and scholars from the United States, Britain, France, the Netherlands, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as college student mental health educators and student representatives from many colleges and universities at home and abroad attended the conference. More than two hundred people attended this conference. The theme of the conference was “Relationship – Meaning – Development – Culture”.

Fourth International Conference on Existential Psychology - Center for Behavioral Helath, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong, May 27-29, 2016

Fourth International Conference

The 4th International Congress of Existential-Humanistic Psychology was held at the Center of Behavioral Health at Hong Kong University from May 25-27, 2016. The conference was organized by the International Institute of Existential-Humanistic Psychology (IIEHP) and the Center for Behavioral Health in Hong Kong. The theme of the conference was “Authenticity and Existentialism – Human Potential in Humanistic Psychology”. The conference invited experts in the field of existential-humanistic psychology, including Louis Hofmann, Todd DuBose, Theopia Jackson, Ilene Serlin, experts in the field. The 3-day international conference brought together psychologists and scholars from the United States, Europe, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as psychologists and professors from mainland China to share and discuss their experiences and research results in existential-humanistic psychotherapy practice.

Fourth International Side Conference – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

(First Existential-Humanistic Psychology Conference in Malaysia)

The 4th International Side Conference of Existential-Humanistic Psychology was also the First International Conference of Existential-Humanistic Psychology held in Kula Lumpur Malaysia.  The conference was the result of the collaboration between IIEHP and HELP University and helped launched HELP University’s new campus.  A number of the presenters including IIEHP faculty members Mark Yang, Jason Dias, Todd Dubose, Rich Bargdill, and Nathaniel Granger traveled to Malaysia from Hong Kong to present at the side conference before returning to the United States and China.

Second Existential-Humanistic Psychology Conference in Malaysia

The Second International Conference on Existential-Humanistic Psychology in Malaysia was also held at HELP University on July 21-22, 2018.  The title and theme of the conference was Let’s Grieve, Trauma, Loss and Growth.  The second conference built on the success of the first conference and included presenter from Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia and the United States.
